Celebrating the 25th Anniversary
of The Movable Book Society – Recap
The Movable Book Society * 12th Conference
September 27-29, 2018 * Kansas City, Missouri
Westin Kansas City at Crown Center
The Westin Crown Center conference room was packed with pop-up and movable book enthusiasts attending the 25th anniversary of the Movable Book Society at the biennial conference in Kansas City, Missouri. A jam-packed agenda was enjoyed by all! Noted paper engineers Bruce Foster and David A. Carter shared career highlights. The MBS limited edition collection A to Z: Marvels in Paper Engineering was unveiled, and the 2018 Meggendorfer Prize for the Best Paper Engineering was presented to Simon Arizpe for Zehhak: Legend of the Serpent King. The silent auction raised a record amount. In honor of our visit, the Hallmark Visitors Center staged a special exhibition of pop-up and movable cards and books from the Hallmark Archives.

MBS Conference Keepsake
Over the years, a specially designed keepsake has been created to memorialize the conference and host city. A remarkable movable, multi-panel fold-out card was hand-assembled in honor of the MBS event in Kansas City. The first 75 registrants received a limited-edition MBS Conference Keepsake designed by book artist Ed Hutchins, with assistance from Sara Kelly, graphic design, and Joe Freedman, laser cutting.
